For Newbies

Try not feel overwhelmed.

I've been getting email and messages that go like this:

"Hi! I want to use coupons, but have NO IDEA WHERE TO START!!!"

Start here:
An intro post on groceries
An intro post on grocery circulars
An intro post on coupons
An intro post on stocking up

Read these and let me know what questions you have.

Would like to know how you are saving money on things like dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent...stuff like that. They seem to take a large chunk out of my bills. Also, besides coupons.com, any other good online coupon resources? A lot of them I check out have the same coupons as coupons.com and coupons.com is more user friendly. Also, can you post some economical meals you are making?

TIA - Shannon SF mom and former filet-eating, Tide using snob ;)

Shannon, There is a great deal on dish detergent at Rite Aid this week. Electrasol- 4.49. I used the 2.50 off coupon from the newspaper a few weeks ago. Then, I put in for my $2 rebate. FInal cost, .50.

I had a few coupons, so I repeated the deal (I could only get one rebate, do I got 4 packages for 6.50).

There are deals like this all the time.

Clip coupons for any and all detergents you see. Watch drug store ads- you can often get a better deal than at the grocery store.

Hi, I just started reading your blog a few weeks ago and I love it! I had my first big "coupon" trip today and got a TON of groceries at Meijer for under $40!! I am newly married and we are in the process of renovating our first house, so I look for any way I can to save money. Just wanted to say thank you for showing me the way :)

Thank you so much for this. I'm sure I'll have more comments after I do all the required reading. In the meantime, where is the best place to find coupons? We don't have the paper delivered now (free reading on the interwebs), but is it worth the cost for the coupons?

PS Thanks for being our little personal coach. I've thought about this for years and have been too scared to try. We'll see how far I get.
