Those things that come in the mail- Read them.

Every Thursday, I get a whole mess of paper through my mail slot. In the past, I would pick the papers up and immediately escort them to the recycling bin. Feeling accomplished for saving the Earth, I would go on with my day.

One random Thursday, one of the papers caught my eye. It was a circular for Stop & Shop- my supermarket, and on the front cover was a picture of my brand of cereal. It said 4 boxes for $6. Whoo-diggity- THAT was a good deal. I got my butt to Stop & Shop and proudly came home with 4 boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios for $6.

I bragged about my fantastic savings to my husband, Rob. He was not impressed. "Why do we need 4 boxes of cereal?" he asked. "Where will we keep them?"

Slightly discouraged by Rob's lack of enthusiasm, I crammed my four boxes of cereal in the cabinet. Maybe I was a dummy for buying a ton of Honey Nut Cheerios. Maybe Rob was right. We'd no doubt be sick of them by the end of the week.

Despite my mini let down, I picked up the circulars when they came through the door the following week. I was shocked- There were FOUR of them. We have FOUR supermarkets near by? For real? I sat down to read.

Dang... There were good prices on EVERYTHING! Each store better than the next! Grapes for .99 a pound! Chicken breast- $1.77 a pound! Whole wheat English muffins for .75 a pack? Are you freaking KIDDING ME? I used to think that supermarket sales were just lucky finds... something happened upon while shopping- almost like finding a dollar bill on the ground.

How had I not read these circulars before?! How could I simply toss away such valuable little gems? As I continued through the pile,I came across a small circular of coupons. I was about to toss them in the recycling bin, because I can NEVER remember to use them, when I noticed a coupon for my brand of yogurt... and wait... didn't I see that on sale at Roche Bros this week? HOLY CRAP- Does that mean I can get this yogurt for like .20? It's not Stop & Shop, but maybe I should check that place out.

Visit tomorrow to learn more about the FABULOUS world of combining COUPONS with sale prices. COUPONS ROCK.
