This is a TEEE-rific week to try out coupons.
It's one of those fabulous weeks when the new coupons in the Sunday paper happen to match up with awesome deals at CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens.
If the whole coupons matching with sales and getting a big bag of crap for free thing intimidates you, start small. Focus on one thing.
This week, you can get Garnier Fructis shampoo (or any other hair product) for free. Usually, this stuff sells for about $4.29 a bottle around here, so this is a rockin' bargain. CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens are all giving this stuff away but in slightly different ways... I'll walk through each store step by step.
There are ALWAYS Garnier coupons out there, but there was one (maybe there were 2?) in this Sunday's paper. It's for $1 off any hair product. Go dig through the recycle bin and find it.
This week at CVS, Garnier is on sale for $2.99.
You pay $1.99 out of pocket and use your $1 off coupon.
A register receipt will print out with $2 of "Extra Care Bucks" you can use at CVS for pretty much anything. They are like cash. They rock. SO basically, you just got your shampoo, and made .01 off of CVS. Score!
This week at Rite Aid, Garnier is on sale for for $3.00.
You pay $2.00 out of pocket and use your $1 off coupon.
You keep your receipt and go online to sign up for Single Check Rebate program. Rite-Aid will send you a check for $2 (or more if you do any other rebate deals- you'd be crazy not to!) at the end of the month. You have to wait a bit, but it's still free.
This week at Walgreens, Garnier is on sale for $2.99.
You use your $1 off coupon AND a $2 off Walgreens store coupon found in their "Easy Saver Catalog"(they are at the entrance).You pay NOTHING out of pocket. This stuff is free. Actually, they owe YOU .01. (You might have to combine this deal with another purchase because they won't always let you get away with them owing you money outright- You usually have to at least break even. Does that make sense?)
So there you have it- getting free shampoo. This is a pretty common deal, too. Once you get accustomed to the different programs you'll find that as long as you're not super loyal to certain brands, you will never have to pay real money for shampoo, conditioner, or toothpaste again. It's freaking awesome.

From Snowflake board. Thank you for taking the time to make this make sense to me. I live in a VERY rural area. There is a CVS opening up two hours from us and when I travel I def. plan on partaking in these deals. YES, I am very enthusiastic about saving this YEAR! As of last year we had ZERO in savings and consierable debt. THIS is going to change!!!
I really like your blog. I was a very big fan of Rite Aid but they shut down all of the stores in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2007. I loved the online rebate program and all of the free stuff. My sister works at Vons and every $500 she spends she gets a $25 gift card. In November the store changed the packaging on the pasta from bags to boxes and marked all of the pasta to $.50 per pound so she used 2 gift cards($50) to get 100 pounds of pasta for free plus the cost of the gift cards ($50)was added toward the next $500 total for another gift card. We have saved thousands of dollars over the years. I am glad you have discovered the secret to saving money also:)
