Dropping some cash

Yesterday, I took my kids on a little trip into Boston. It was meant to be an inexpensive day. We rode the commuter boat, were going to get an ice cream, and then turn around to come back home... but it was over 90 degrees outside.

To find some relief, I sprung for trip to the Boston Children's Museum. We've been there before, and I knew Tyler, my 2 year old, loves it (until my teacher's union card expired recently, I had gottten free admission). What I didn't expect was how much my 1 year old, Jennie, would enjoy it.

So kind of spontaneously, I bought a 15 month membership. It was not cheap.

In the past, a spontaneous purchase like this would have put us over the edge. It would have gone on a credit card and the balance would have floated around us for months.

Now though, because we are careful with our budget every month, we have money in our ING account to cover splurges like this. It's kind of like planned spontaniety.

So was it pricey? Yes. Did I blow this month's "fun" budget? Out of the water. Can we afford it? YES.

Frugality pays off.

(Anyone up for a trip to the Children's museum? I can bring 5 people with me!)

I bet you'll use it all the time. We generally get the library pass and go annually. If I had a membership I'd probably go once a month and pack lunch.

Are you in Mass? If so, hello neighbor!

I think memberships like that are a win win, you support the cause and you bring your children to a place they enjoy (and that's educational!) :)

Great splurge!
Sounds like tons of fun.

Oh how fun! Great splurge! My husband works next to that place. The best thing about those memberships are that you get into a lot of other places for free too. I heard the Ecotarium in Worcester is really good too.

My kids loved the Children's Museum. We used to start from the top and work our way down. Just make sure you go back. We also bought the membership but never seemed to be able to make it back before we moved...

i love the children's museum, but living up here in maine i haven't gotten a chance to bring my kiddos yet. thanks for the reminder! i remember when i was in brownies, we had this big sleepover in the museum with other girl scout troops; we got to sleep in the lightening room - how cool is that??
