$50 a week

OK, So a couple of weeks back, we found out we were going to lose a chunk of income this summer. While were prepared for the blow, the reality didn't suck any less.

To get ready for a lean paycheck, we are cutting back where we can- so I'm giving myself a new little challenge to work with.

Starting with this week's grocery specials (Friday 6/12), our family will be going on a $50 per week grocery budget.

Will we be able to do it? I don't know... I think so. Here's why:

1. I stockpile shop. I have a tone of non-perishables in the basement at any given time.
2. I prepaid for us to be part of an organic fruit and veggie CSA this summer- so fresh produce won't eat into our budget.
3. My family is down with simple, no frills eating.
4. My kids are really young... and I am REALLY trying to lose weight (OK- I'm not a bubble head. I know this will make it harder... just dreaming.).

So I'll keep you involved in the process- I'll share my grocery lists, coupons, and meal planning. Who knows- I might spot some can't miss deals for all of us since I'll be extra motivated.

I'm not sure how long I'll do this for- so let's just say 4 weeks. Why not? So June 12-July 9... $50 a week. Can I get a little cheer? I need it.

Good luck, Kate!!!
And you don't need to lose any more weight. Dude, you looked mad hot in your jeans in the touch-a-truck pictures!!!!

You totally can do it! I'm at just under $80 per week since 1/1/09 - but we buy ridiculous stuff like diapers, cat litter, Coke, and all our produce at the store.

The hard part for me would be to actually just stick to a set amount each week. I do crazy stuff like spend $160 in one week, but then $25 the following week.

You should check out Sparkrecipes.com - lots of great healthy recipes on there.

You TOTALLY can do this! I work with $75 every other week and wish that I would spread it out more, but I think that you have a good starting point and great resources already in place!

Good luck! I wish I could do that but I don't have enough stockpiled to do it :( It's something I really want to do when we move.

I think I just might join you. Things aren't great with my husband's job right now so we're trying to tighten even more. Right now, I'm at $75 a week. That extra $25 a week might really pay off over the four weeks if I can do it. Good luck and let us know if you find any mega-awesome deals!

Good luck Katy...i'm really excited to hear how it goes for you. I would love to cut my family down to a $50 a week grocery budget....but right now I'm stuck at $100.00. I cant get the number to budge it seems. It does include formula and diapers though, so I guess i'm doing pretty good.
Keep us detailed on how your doing with the challenge. Best of luck.
