EDITED TO ADD- This thing isn't ginger. Oh, and it's the size of a softball.

It's celery root or celeriac! Duh! You can keep it though, I'd have no idea to do with such a thing! :-)

I'd say jicima. Peel it, slice up, eat it raw. Sweet and crunchy. Low in carbs. Great alone or on a salad. Great snack for kids.
Looks like Kolorabi to me...
Does it smell like celery? If so its the celery root, about he only thing I've ever used it for is soup.
