Need Peanut Butter? Or Pasta Sauce?

This is a great week to stock up on some basics.

There are coupons in the paper for Unilever products (Ragu, Lipton, Skippy, etc). There are also a number of drug stores and supermarkets offering register rewards deals.

I am going to be stocking up on Ragu- it's basic, easy, my kids eat it, we can donate some to the food pantry, I can use it in a ton of different dinners, and I can get a good deal on it.

I'll be going to Walgreens. Ragu is priced $1.99 a jar.
I am going to buy 9 jars. My total will be $17.90.
I have 3 Buy 3 get $1 off coupons (Sunday paper). My total will be 14.90.
Because I bought 8 jars, I will get a $10 Register Reward back.
So basically, I'll be paying $4.90 for 9 jars of sauce (after Register Rewards).
That's .54 a jar.

At Shaw's Supermarket I will do a similar deal (I hope I can score more coupons... I posted a request on Freecycle!).
Ragu is priced 6 for $10.
I am going to buy 12 jars. My total will be $20.
I'll use 4 Buy 3 get $1 off coupons (Sunday paper), my total will be $16.
I have $15 in Register Rewards from a previous shopping trip.
So that will bring my total to $1 for 12 jars of Ragu, plus because I spent $20, I'll get $5 Register Rewards.
So I guess that means Shaw's will pay me $4 for this sauce.

So with these 2 trips combined, I'll be spending .90 (including rewards, etc) for 21 jars of pasta sauce.

I really think using coupons makes moments like this worth it! If you're new to the coupon scene, read the circulars in the Sunday paper to see which of your local stores are offering a similar deal. Then get your scissors out and CLIP. (Most of the store deals allow you to mix and match Unilever products, so you don't have to be a sauce hoarder like me).
